Bio/Info

Nancy Black was born in the Romani Movement. Rumours say she was the partner of the journalist/culturemanager Gilda Horvath. Some say she is a product of the internet. She is writing poems in Romani Language translating them into German and English. At rare occations she is performing her texts with the Band „Romano Groovement“. Her videomixes reflect the search for identity and self-perceptions in a presence celebrating digital distortion as dominating spirit of this age. Her political message is clear. #opreRoma

Nancy Black wurde aus der Romabewegung geboren. Gerüchte besagen sie wäre einmal die Lebenspartnerin der Journalistin/Kulturmanagerin Gilda Horvath gewesen. Wieder andere sagen Sie kommt aus dem Internet. Sie schreibt Gedichte auf Romanes die sie in Englisch und Deutsch übersetzt und bei Gelegenheit mit der Band „Romano Groovement“ musikalisch zelebriert. Ihre Videomixcollagen reflektieren die Suche nach Identität und Selbstbildern in einer Gegenwart die digitale Verzerrung zum Zeitgeist erhoben hat. Trushula ( Romanes for „crosses“) has a clear message: Never forget the victims of the Holocaust.Never forget what happened – and even more important: Never let it happen again. Don’t give your vote to far-right politicians and their discriminating agendas.

Nancy Black – the artist alter ego of Gilda Horvath – made this song in Dec 2016 after being threatened and bashed by people who had spread fake news about Roma in the media: They claimed that all Roma in Austria would give their support to the far-right candidate at the Presidential Elections in Austria on Dec 4 2016.

Horvath protested against this kind of manipulation and became target of hate speech and defamation after that. Trushula was a clear answer. This was the day Nancy Black was born.
